Brow Lamination 101: What to Know Before Your First Appointment
What brow lamination is, how long it lasts, aftercare, and who it's best for, explained by a brow artist in Montebello, CA.
If you've admired those full, feathery, brushed-up brows all over Instagram, you've seen brow lamination. It's one of the most requested services at the studio, and one of the most misunderstood. Here's everything to know before your first appointment.
What is brow lamination?
Brow lamination is a non-invasive treatment that restructures your natural brow hairs so they stay set in your ideal direction, usually brushed up and out for that full, editorial look. Think of it as a perm for your brows, but gentler and far more precise.
There are no needles and no pigment. Unlike microblading, lamination works entirely with the hair you already have, which is why it's such an easy first step into brow treatments.
Who gets the best results?
Lamination is ideal if you have:
- Unruly or curly brow hairs that grow in every direction
- Downward-growing hairs that hide your natural arch
- Decent hair density that just needs organizing, since lamination makes existing hair look fuller
- Gaps caused by hair direction, where redirecting the hair covers sparse spots
If your brows are very sparse, lamination can still help, and pairing it with a tint adds noticeable depth. During your consultation we'll look at your hair and be honest about what lamination can and can't do.
What happens during the appointment
The whole treatment takes about 45–60 minutes at the studio:
- Your brows are cleansed and your ideal shape is mapped
- A lifting cream gently softens the hair structure
- Brows are brushed and set into their new direction
- A setting solution locks the shape in place
- Optional: tint for extra definition, and shaping to perfect the borders
Nothing about the process hurts. Most clients describe it as relaxing.
How long does it last?
Results typically last 4–6 weeks, fading gradually as your brow hairs go through their natural growth cycle. Consistent aftercare stretches results toward the six-week end.
Aftercare basics
The first 24 hours matter most:
- Keep brows completely dry: no washing, steam, or heavy sweating
- Skip makeup and skincare products on the brow area
- Don't touch or brush them excessively
After day one, treat them kindly: brush them into place each morning, and consider a nourishing brow serum or oil a few times a week to keep the hairs healthy and conditioned.
Lamination vs. microblading: quick answer
Microblading tattoos hair-like strokes into the skin; lamination styles your real hair. If you have workable hair density and want a fuller look without anything permanent, start with lamination. It's lower cost, zero commitment, and the results speak for themselves.
